Dr. Maryam Azary
The California Community Colleges Student Mental Health Program congratulates Dr. Maryam Azary for her hard work and efforts in creating a crisis intervention handbook as well as a faculty guide for responding to students with distressed, disruptive and threatening behavior. The faculty guide has been spotlighted as a successful practice among California Community Colleges. Dr. Azary has done an outstanding job raising awareness of mental health issues at Saddleback College and empowering faculty and staff in helping to effectively address mental health issues among students.
A counselor and professor, Dr. Azary has been with Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California since 1990. She holds a doctorate degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Marital and Family Therapy. She also enjoys teaching Women Studies 120, Applied Psychology 160 and 140. In addition to her work as a Generalist Counselor, Maryam has enjoyed acting as co-editor of the Saddleback College Student Handbook as well as working as a counselor in Special Services. She is currently coordinating the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) at Saddleback College and is a co-chair of the Mental Health Task Force Program. She respects and is sensitive to the diverse need of student population.
