Davar Ardalan
Digital book lovers from all over the world gathered in New York from January 13-15 as part of the 2014 Digital Book Awards. LeVar Burton, actor and co-founder of Reading Rainbow, hosted the event to recognize "innovation, creativity and excellence in all aspects of digital book publishing."
Davar Ardalan was a finalist for The Persian Square, an interactive book chronicling Iranian-American history going back to the 1800s. All judges gave the book a QED (quality, excellence, design) seal of approval for e-book design and formatting.
It was humbling for Davar to be in the same category as Breaking Bad: Alchemy (Sony Pictures Television) for best cover design. She is grateful to artists Nasser Ovissi and Hamid Rahmanian, who gave permission to incorporate their artwork as part of the covers for version 1.1 and 1.2.
We live in times when the architecture of publishing has been shattered. Although Davar didn’t win, it was an honor to have been nominated. The judges noted that the award winners and finalists in 15 categories demonstrated “fresh thinking, inspired design, and bold technology integration, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in this constantly evolving publishing arena.”
