Shadi is currently a candidate for a Master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University graduating in May 2017. She has experience working on global public health issues with emphasis on mental health and drug addiction focusing on displaced, vulnerable and refugee populations. She currently acts as a managing director of an NGO working in capacity building in vulnerable populations. She has lectured and written on the topic. She also collaborates with the Global Institute for Health and Human Rights in working with displaced populations and training such as medical students in Syria. She is Canadian but with a long standing history of living and working overseas in various countries for over 25 years.
