Biography | Dr. Torabian-Riasati is the Dietetic Program (DPD) Director and associate professor in Nutrition and Dietetics at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). She has an undergraduate degree (B.S) in Food Science and Technology from Iran, and a Masters in Nutrition and Food Science from California State University, Pomona and Doctorate in Public Health, Nutrition from Loma Linda University Medical Center. She is a Registered Dietitian (RD). Dr. Torabian-Riasati as the DPD Director is responsible for student advisement, evaluation and counseling. She is also responsible for maintenance of DPD accreditation, including timely submission of fees, reports and requests for major program changes and also maintenance of DPD student records, including student advising plans, declaration of intents and verification statements. She was the recipient of the two time Polished Apple Award, 2010-2012 for excellence and teaching and mentorship. She was also Nominated for Outstanding Dietetic Educator award from the American Dietetic Association (ADA), Outstanding Faculty Award at CSUN 2011 and 2012 and Don Dorsey Mentoring Award. She is a member of numerous organizations such as; California Dietetic Association (CDA), Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (A.N.D.), American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences, and the Association of Professional and Scholars of Iranian Heritage (APSIH). Her research has focused on the study of nut consumption and health. Dr.Torabian-Riasati has written for numerous journals, such as European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, British Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Human Journal of Nutrition, Journal of American Dietetic Association and many more. She has published a book chapter on Polyphenols (2012). She also has several recent publications in many different nutrition and clinical nutrition areas such as Effect of nut consumption on plasma polyphenol, antioxidant capacity and lipid peroxidation of healthy humans and Long term walnut supplementation without dietary advice induces favorable serum lipid changes in free-living individuals. She has taught 11 different undergraduate and graduate courses in Nutrition and Dietetics since she joined CSUN faculty in 2005 but currently her main courses are Advanced Nutrition Macronutrients and Medical Nutrition Therapy. |
