Biography

Shokooh Mirzadegi is presently, the founder and executive director of the “World Cultural Heritage Voices,” a non-profit NGO in the USA with the goal of elevating global awareness about the cultural and natural heritage which are endangered due to wars, governments’ negligence and political and religious discrimination.
She is an accomplished author, poet, journalist, lecturer and an international activist for cultural heritage, human rights and women’s causes. She has written over fifteen books, hundreds of articles, and created more than 400 TV programs. When she became the Editor in Chief of “Talash”, a magazine focused on cultural and literary issues, she was the youngest editor of such a credible publication.

Prior to the Islamic Revolution of 1979, she was imprisoned due to her participation in a political group and was forced to appear on TV and ask for pardon. Once released from the prison, she decided to quit from all her political activities and has been a cultural heritage and human rights activist ever since.

Some of her works have been translated into English, French and Japanese. Her book “On the Other Side of Annihilation” (1979) and the prize-wining creation of hers, ”That Stranger in Me” (1993), have been published in English. She is the first Iranian women writer who has written a science-fiction, and in fact the collection of her writings includes novels, plays, children’s books, poetry, and extensive literary works.

She has been amongst the founders of Iranian Women Organization (in Britain), Society of Iranian writers and Artist (in Britain), Puyeshgaraan Cultural Society (Britain and USA), and Pasargad Heritage Foundation (in USA), which is the first International NGO focused on preservation of national, historical and cultural heritage of Iran. She is also the Editor-in-chief of SavePasargad.com.
