IAWF NorCal “After Party”
On October 29, the IAWF NorCal Chapter hosted a contemporary art exhibition curated by Fouladi Projects. “After Party” featured paintings, photography and video installations by Afshin Chizari, Anahita Ghazvinizadeh, Babak Kazemi, Elham Rokni and Aram Tahmasebi. Award-winning filmmaker Anahita Ghazvinizadeh attended the exhibition as the chapter’s special guest, speaking to the evocative interactive visualizations that the intersection of art, mixed media and cinema bring to contemporary Iranian arts and culture. “After Party” refers to events that transpired after the Iranian Revolution. Although the revolution started with a significant amount of excitement, rapid changes in a relatively short period of time have shaped a complex post-revolutionary experience. The pieces of art in the exhibition were created by artists born in Iran after 1979. Some of the artists grew up during the eight yearlong Iran Iraq war, while others have memories of immigration and dislocation. Now, there is the hopeful and rebellious new Internet generation, the Iranian millennials, that the world has yet to see.
