NYC Conference Committee Agree to Organize Local Chapter
New York, New York --
In December 2013, members of the Iranian American Women Foundation Conference NYC planning committee and IAWF Founder Mariam Khosravani gathered at the home of Azita Aghravi in Manhattan to review and discuss the recent conference held in October. Jeyran Ghara served as the meeting’s moderator.
Mariam Khosravani, who traveled all the way from California just to attend the meeting, addressed the group enthusiastically and declared the conference a great success. Mostly due to the committee’s hard work and dedication, tapping into their resources and networks that resulted in a sold out event, with star studded panels and generous sponsorships.
The planning committee also provided their feedback. Many said that the event exceeded their expectations and were surprised to see so many women of Iranian Heritage in the NYC area. Some said they would have liked to have had longer sessions with the panels for Q & A and more networking opportunities with other attendees. It was also a treat to have met several IAWF members from California who traveled to the NYC conference to assist with operations. It was agreed that another IAWFoundation NYC Conference be held in October 2014.
Finally, members unanimously agreed to establish a NYC IAWFoundation chapter. The chapter would follow IAWFoundation’s current mission, vision and values. Priorities were to “give back”, “share knowledge”,“help the next generation” and provide powerful networking opportunities. Charitable causes were also discussed but determined as something that would need careful thought and development.
